whatever happens over a cup of coffee..

I woke up at 8 this morning (I know its pretty early for a sunday morning!) and was browsing through the last month's beautiful homes over a cup of coffee.. By the way its a beautiful sunny morning here in Romford and the weather is just right for some creative reading and writing. Anyway, back to the magazine, I came across this inspiring article about transforming living rooms. The article is really inspiring on how you can use simple and plain fabrics (like voile) for curtains, timeless furniture and team it up with coordinating accessories (like antique gold mirrors, old colourful jars or jugs for vases and beautiful wallpapers). The look you achieve is so personalised and lived in...

I really like the idea of inherited furniture pieces and revamping them to go with your room décor. For those like me who may not inherit vintage furniture can try getting some great deals at auctions! On telly I have seen some old unloved pieces getting restored and transformed into unique designs. Like the revamped arm chair in flower pattern fabric in this pic..

Even the distress look eggshell coloured cupboard is awesome (personally I would have preferred a darker colour maybe a tweety yellow or an indigo blue)...

Here are some of the pictures I really liked from the House Beautiful 'june issue'...
(apologies for my not so great photography!!)

Happy sunday everyone..enjoy!!

home office

just a quick update... my new venture is coming along well and the more involved I am, the more exciting it gets! :)
These days I am working on my festival collection through my living room and I really want to have my own office space as soon as possible!! While I was day dreaming about that, I just browsed through some cool home office designs... check it out!

i love the yellow and brown combo... its fabulous!

that's my dream office very open and full of light!

the little desk and storage is quite cosy, its cute but i need some more storage.. some colourful rattan storage chests on the sides of the desk will be ideal!

very professional and organised office space.. again need some more storage!

another wall mounted office feature!

very suitable to keep little accessories and stationary organised.. definitely getting this!!!

decoration dilemma...

since I have moved into my new house I have had trouble making up my mind on how should I decorate the place.. its been nearly 8 months and I have not made any progress, talking to my friend few days ago I decided to take it up now..

so I have taken out some to focus on home decoration.... sharing few ideas I got from my research...

remember the old pepsi crates.. think they are great storage solution, they are cool to look at and easy to handle!

these napkins holders are made out of cinnamon sticks, i am thinking of using sheets of thick paper and make my own .... very innovative and stunning!

loving the color full old liquor bottles, they add pretty hues to a space... i might have to get drunk in the coming weeks to make a quick collection :)

the use of natural materials in this case, cane basket and vase is a smart idea to bring earthy, rustic feel to a modern house...

decorative balls in a bowl is a cool concept...love the use of measuring tape, can also use different color laces... also love the ball with buttons.. m thinking of trying to make these with an old tennis ball, random colorful buttons and pearl head pins (to pin the buttons onto the tennis ball)... will update if the idea works!!!

this jute tissue box has attracted me the most.. a tissue box is as an essential element of my living room and i dont like the cardboard packaging that much.. so i am going to try and make this with macrame (that i learned at college!!) and slip my cardboard tissue box into this cover!!

hope these ideas inspire u guys and if u try them keep me posted.. toodles!!

brave color combinations...

I love bright colors and I think they are very brave colors... bright colors bring in lot of drama and imagination to a room.. I like whites and creams but these days i am drawn towards brights..
Here are some color combinations that I find very inspiring..

the green and red is a lush combination..very dramatic and playful..

the purple and yellow is very refreshing and fills the space with brightness...

these colors will stand out on a red background.. very decorative and rich..

apple green and dirty blue are not very bright colors but very bold color combination .. lovely colors for a bachelor pad or boy's den!!

halo

Nearly an year since I last wrote.. I did'nt abandon my blog but was super busy with my new SETTLED life.. Yess we have finally managed to achieve that and I have happily put my suitcases in the loft!! I have moved to London and I am thoroughly enjoying the new settled phase..

Now that I am settled I have started thinking (when I say thinking I mean dreaming!) about my career and the fading dream of becoming a designer like Anamika Khanna is more visible now!!

And I have decided to venture into Designing and becoming my own boss!! I have decided to bring very Indian good quality fabrics and prints to London and with my own ideas make modern style home furnishings!!!

I have thought of travelling every few months shop for fabrics and accessories that interest me and then make handmade furnishings... Although I wont be able to make a lot but the fact that each design would be different from another and very personalised.. I think it should appeal to my clients!! With this effort I wish to bring in my vision of how I see Indian festivals, its culture and its life.

The idea of using very vibrant prints and accessories may not be the newest concept that I can bring to London but my idea is to promote the real Indian textiles and bold mix n match of colors that can make a room look warm, welcoming and full of positive energy!

I am still struggling to come up with the nice name. Any suggestions on the concept are welcome and much appreciated!!
